If you haven’t guessed yet, let us tell you, we love trees. Today we are going to discuss the White Pine. This is a tree we see a bit of in our tree removal work. IT can reach up to eighty to one hundred feet, but some specimens reach up to as much as two hundred feet. The needles of this pine tree come in clusters of 5 (as opposed to to three for Lob Lollies) which come in clusters of three). The needles are blue-green in color and the cones are four to eight inches long. These canes are to be credited with attracting the common visitors to white pines, the hungry squirrel and the songbirds. In fact, clusters of wildlife can be found in and around white pines and they are especially known as the home to owls. The white pine is the largest conifer in the northeast. It’s habit of growing tall and straight explains why it was in high demand for ship building. White pines were used as ships’ masts. Today it is still farmed for timber and used for furniture, cabinets and lumber. They are also often planted as windbreaks.

If you have a white pine (or any other tree) that is need of pruning or removal, call (804) 505-2562 or sign up on our website for a free estimate.
